L'Olympique Lyonnais affrontera le FC Barcelone en huitièmes de finale de la Ligue des champions. Soit le pire tirage dont pouvait hérité les septuples de champion de France.

Un an après avoir affronté Manchester United, futur vainqueur de la compétition, Lyon n'a encore pas été verni par les petites boules de l'UEFA. Certes, en dehors du Panathinaïkos voire du FC Porto, il n'y avait que du lourd au programme, entre Man U, Liverpool ou la Juve. Mais avec le Barça, les hommes de Claude Puel ont carrément décroché le pompon. Meilleure attaque européenne avec plus trois buts inscrits par match depuis le début de la saison, porté par des stars planétaires comme Lionel Messi ou Samuel Eto'o, le tout en pratiquant un jeu collectif sans égal, le club catalan fait en effet figure d'épouvantail de la compétition.

Avec son statut évident d'outsider, d'autant que le match retour se disputera au Nou Camp, Lyon peut toutefois se dire qu'il n'aura rien à perdre dans cette double opposition. Une élimination serait logique. Une qualification historique. Et l'issue sera quoiqu'il arrive moins douloureuse que lors des confrontations perdues les années précédentes face au PSV Eindhoven, Porto ou l'AS Rome, autant de clubs qui paraissaient à la portée des Lyonnais. Sur le papier.

Des affiches à la pelle
Ces huitièmes de finale, qui promettaient d'être relevés vu la qualité des équipes présentes dans le chapeau deux, ont donc accouchés de quelques affiches de très haut niveau, dont les alléchants Inter - Man U, Chelsea - Juventus et Real - Liverpool. Sans parler des rencontres Arsenal - AS Rome et Atletico - Porto, qui promettent elles aussi de valoir leur pesant de cacahouètes.
